2006 WORLD CUP IN GERMANY | ARGENTINA vs SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO

ARGENTINA 6, SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO 0

Friday June 16, 2006 | 1st Round
Serbia and Montenegro played like they had a massive hangover.

The team that played so decently against the Netherlands five days ago did not show up today.

The goal fest started early, with the first goal coming in the 6th minute when Maxi Rodriguez first timed a nicely centered ball into the area.

25 minutes later, came a beautifully crafted goal with several nice touch passes capped by a slick Hernan Crespo backheel to Esteban Cambiasso for his first time punch into goal.

In the 37th minute, a bad offsides call disallowed a Crespo goal.

To add insult to injury, another bad decision gave Crespo a yellow card for putting the ball into the goal after the offsides whistle, which probably was drowned in the loud crowd noise.

Goal number three came four minutes later.

On a terrible defensive error, the ball was taken away in the corner of the S&M end by Javier Saviola, who then cut into the area and delivered it to Maxi Rodriguez at the far post.

Rodriquez's shot hit the post then a defender before rolling past the goal line.

As if things weren't going badly enough for the Serbians and Montenegrins, they went down to 10 men when in the 65th minute Mateja Kezman picked up a straight red card for an ugly challenge.

4-0 was the tally after 78 minutes when Lionel Messi delivered a cross to Crespo for the punch into goal.

Six minutes later and it was goal number five.

Carlos Tevez faked out two defenders on his way to the area where he finished a brilliant goal.

The final goal came in the 88th minute when Lionel Messi beat keeper Dragoslav Jevric embarrassingly at his near post.

The scoreline was 6-0 as the game and S&M's chances in this tournament ended.
