2006 WORLD CUP IN GERMANY | CZECH REPUBLIC vs GHANA

GHANA SHOCKS CZECHS 2-0

Saturday June 17, 2006 | 1st Round
An unbelievable performance by Ghana puts them clearly in the hunt for advancement.

If not for Czech keeper Petr Cech, Ghana would have scored several more goals in this thriller.

Astonishingly, only 70 seconds into the match and Ghana scored a goal.

Asamoah Gyan chested down a Stephen Appiah pass and struck a hard shot from the top of the area past keeper Petr Cech.

Just before halftime, the Ghanians may have gotten away with one as a Czech may have been taken down from behind on a shot attempt in the area.

In the 46th minute, Pavel Nedved headed a goal but offsides erased it.

Tomas Ujfalusi of Czech Republic was shown a red card in the 65th minute for taking down Matthew Amoah in the penalty area.

Asamoah Gyan's penalty shot however was blasted off the post.

Then it was a Ghanian shooting gallery for nearly 20 minutes with keeper Cech incredibly saving everything thrown at him, but it was too much and in the 82nd minute Ghana made it 2-0 on a Sulley Muntari goal.

There may have been an offsides but no call was made.

Ghana put the ball in for a goal in the 89th minute but a lack of concentration nullified it with an unnecessary offsides.

With a 3 on 1 situation in the area whilst on a run toward goal, Ghana substitute Razak Pimpong decided to pass rather than shoot.

With only the keeper and two close by teammates in front of him, the offsides was obvious.

A flurry of action ensued in injury time, with Ghana keeper Richard Kingson making a couple world class saves of his own to keep the scoresheet clean.

The result leaves all kinds of possibilities open for Group E.
