2006 WORLD CUP IN GERMANY | ECUADOR vs COSTA RICA

ECUADOR ELIMINATE COSTA RICA 3-0

Thursday June 15, 2006 | 1st Round
Just like their first match with Poland, Ecuador looked the far superior squad.

For Costa Rica though, it was night and day difference from their admirable showing against Germany.

The pitifully woeful performance by the Costa Ricans on this day ended their chance for advancement from Group A.

The winner came very early. 8th minute in fact, when Carlos Tenorio headed home a short cross from the right side.

Goal number two came nine minutes into the second half.

Agustin Delgado fired in a cracker from the right corner of the penalty area that dreadfully beat keeper Jose Porras at his near post.

In the 70th minute, an Ecuador goal was disallowed for a very close offsides call.

Costa Rica's best chance for goal came three minutes from time when Alvaro Saborio hit the crossbar following an awkward Costa Rican build up.

The third goal came in injury time from substitute Ivan Kaviedes on a nice first timer via an Edison Mendez cross.
