In an uninteresting game, the Iranians were eliminated from advancement with the loss.

It was one way traffic the whole way with Portugal relentlessly on the attack.

After a scoreless first half, the Portuguese finally scored in the 63rd minute.

Deco first timed a bomb into goal from outside the area courtesy of a Luis Figo setup, leaving Iranian keeper Ebrahim Mirzapour no chance.

Iran's best opportunity for goal came in minute 69.

Freshly substituted Rasoul Khatibi was on the end of a long ball delivery into the Portugal area, but his shot rolled tantalizingly across the front of the goal line and trickled out just wide of the far post.

Portugal won a penalty in the 79th minute when Figo was brought down in the area by Yahya Golmohammadi.

Cristiano Ronaldo showed how a penalty should be taken.

His clinical penalty shot was struck well and hard high into the goal.

The final kick of the game in injury time had Ronaldo putting the ball in the Iranian goal, but the apparent third Portuguese goal was disallowed for offsides.

Portugal has not looked anything special in their two matches thus far, nonetheless they advance to the 2nd Round for the first time in 40 years.
