Sweden was a bit unfortunate to lose this one as they twice hit woodwork and weren't given a penalty for an English hand ball in the area.
Things did not get off to a good start for England, when in the very first minute Michael Owen awkwardly went down on his own and had to be stretchered off. It looked like a serious leg injury and he did not return.
A Joe Cole goal put England ahead 1-0 in the 34th minute. It was an absolutely brilliant long ranger by Cole. Cole chested the ball down from 30 metres out, then got off his mean dipping shot in which keeper Andreas Isaksson was able to get a hand to and push against the post, but in it went.
The Swedes equalized in the 51st minute. A Tobias Linderoth corner was delivered to Marcus Allback, who headed home from a very tight angle indeed.

Sweden threatened again four minutes later when a corner kick was hit off the crossbar, then handled by a defender in the area. No penalty was awarded however.
Only five minutes on and it was another Swedish shot off the crossbar via a corner kick.
More Swedish threats in the 72nd minute. A goalbound ball was cleared off the line by England substitute Steven Gerrard.
England regained the lead in the 85th minute with a header in by, who else, Steven Gerrard.
But Sweden were not done in yet. In the 90th minute, it was atrocious English defense for a Swedish equalizer. A throw in by Sweden somehow bounced over everyone and landed deeply in the England penalty area. A mad scramble erupted for the ball, with Henrik Larrson tapping in.
